About the institution
TOBB University of Economics and Technology (TOBB ETU) is a private non-profit foundation university founded officially in 2003 by “The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey” (TOBB) to educate individuals who has entrepreneur, innovator and leadership skills and actions. Turkey Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) is the largest umbrella organization of Turkish business world and the private sector. TOBB is also known as the parent organization of professional and legal representative in Turkey.
TOBB ETU, despite its relative youth, is now one of Turkey’s leading universities, with an acknowledged reputation for excellence in research and teaching, for innovation and for links with business and industry. The university has 6 faculties, three institutes with more than 5900 students.
TOBB gave much importance to industry-university collaboration, which has an enormous contribution to the development of the private sector for both academic and economic sides. The university has been established with the aim of giving an education which is highly qualified and visionary. The tailor-made education system in TOBB ETU is designed to the needs of the Turkish industry and global business preferences. The education is practice-based, open to innovations, and entrepreneurship.
One of the most ambitious privileges of our university is the Co-op Education Model which has been implemented with great success since the first year it was founded. It is the first and only university to offer cooperative education in Turkey. In the framework of this model, students of TOBB ETU take part in companies and firms for training where they will gain experience in the sector in which they would like to learn and work in the future. In this coop education model; student is required to gain experience in the real business environment and to apply what he/she has learned in an industrial or trade company related to his / her undergraduate program, which is carried out every four months after the second year of the school. By this model, students develop their own theoretical and practical knowledge and experience about the business world. In addition, they transfer the technical/ scientific problems of the university and reinforce their skills by researching the subjects that can be solved through joint studies with university-industry opportunities or by conducting model productions. It is also possible for students to learn new technologies and applications in industrial and service organizations.
TOBB, Ministry of National Education, and TOBB ETU signed jointly a “Cooperation Protocol for VET in Turkey” at the beginning of 2019. This protocol is signed to enhance the new and dynamic vocational training model, which is prepared according to the qualities demanded by the market. 81 vocational high schools in 81 provinces are covered by the protocol. The consortium ensures that the vocational training in these places is designed in line with the needs of the sector through the Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey. According to the protocol, workshops and laboratories will be established in these schools and existing ones will be renovated. R&D and Skill Design Workshops will be launched. New educational contents will be prepared with the support of TOBB ETU. TOBB ETU, Faculty of Design and Architecture is one of the key stakeholders in the execution of this protocol.
